Late summer, somewhere in the middle ages.
The plague is dragging all Europe down. The sense that the world is ending is more present than never before. The unbelievable creatures that inhabited the most fantastical bestiaries proved to be real. From one night to the next, it was already everywhere.
Among the few groups that had survived their cruel attacks, some said they came from the East, crossing the borders of the far away Prester Johannes´ kingdom. Others said they came directly from the cornices of Hell, as no one had ever been there to attest its truth.
Putrid plague...
Nothing else matters, as people are being killed by the hundreds, being found slayed all around. The only thing that proved to work to keep them away was the use of sacred symbols.
These people are all trapped inside a Cathedral. They didn´t know each other until then and no one knows how they got there.
Within a short time they will have to go out to find food, or somewhere else to stay…
And this is all…
SISTER MARY - An stigmatic dominican nun. Besides the Cardinal, she was the only one already inside the Cathedral when the monsters came. She is seen as a living Saint by many. By others, she would already have been burned down.
DANTE - He is being guided by his beloved Beatrice, who, blessed be the Saints, didn´t live to see the world´s sickness, and inhabits the pages of his Paradiso, which he keeps close enough.
QUEEN ISABELLA I - After his King and husband was found dead, she got in a deep grief. As an act of madness, as some would say, she commanded that his head should be embalmed, so as to always be able to keep it close to her heart.
SAMMARRA YEFRAYIN - A condemned heretic. He was being conducted to be burned by brother Isidorus and his sect. Curiously, he was saved by one creature that killed most of his captors. God bless the Great Cross.
BROTHER ISIDORUS - Leader of the “Brotherhood of Death”, a group responsible for conducting heretics to bonfires. Together with his prisoner, he saved himself from imminent death.
JOAN - The voices in her head were her protection, telling her exactly which way to go until she found out the Cathedral and saved herself inside of it.
JACOB THE GRAVEDIGGER - He always prefered befriending rats rather than people, being already used to being kicked and spat on by everyone. He worked next to the Cathedral, which made it an easy way for him to get inside.
THE EXECUTIONER AND HIS PREGNANT WIFE - He was the local hangman, and above everything, he will protect his upcoming child, behind his giant shape, from any threat it could get, monstrous or even human alike...
CARDINAL BORGIA - He will go out, but not before taking every sacred relic and richness he can carry, thinking that his greed will be his salvation. He displays the uncorrupted head of Saint Catherine of Sienna, the most important relic of his church.
NAMELESS ARMOUR - Nobody knows anything about him, not even his face. He just appeared wearing this strange, unfinished jousting armour that he claimed to have found in the basement of a dead blacksmith.
BERENGAR - He is a poor peasant. Nothing more can be said about him, as no one would be interested. He will make himself into an idol, a human Iconostasis. Amen
